Cosplay and Conventions Anime North

Ok, I FINALLY get to make this thread. I've been wanting to make it since September, but I kept holding it back, because I figured it was too soon. But now, with Anime North only a month and a half away, I think it's about time this came into existence.

So, who's going? Are you cosplaying? If so, as who?

I'm definately going.

I'm sending in the pre-registration form tommorrow, and I've already booked my flight. Hey, and this year, maybe I can meet some of you guys and have some friends to walk around with. Better than I had last year. All by myself, and I got to walk around on my own and do whatever I wanted.

i'll be going ^_^ hopefully more people will go to AN from here as well. Wasn't there a lil meet up last year?? i forgot to go last time =( I have no clue how it went. Can't wait to be back cosplaying again though ^^ yay!

I can't go since i have that whole country-away thing going on. But i just hope that the convetion doesn't blow for you guys. I went to MegaCon (which is preety much your Anime North) this year, and it was kinda sad. Here's to hope!

Heh, just wear a "Glomp me" sign. If that's too overdone, you could be a gay kitty boy. Hehe, then you'll get lotsa fangirls!!! I don't know if you went to the other Toronto cons like CNA, or TAC in Toronto but if you went to those you probably would have noticed the crazyness with the kittyboys then. I'm guessing you'd rather go with the sign thing though, hehehe. You should really go!!! >=O

So, from the looks of it, only a couple of people are going to show. That kinda sucks. But, hey, at the least, we could set up some sort of meeting, and those that do come will finally meet Shinryu, if no one else.

Last year I got there, like, two hours before everything started, and I was sitting around in the table area, talking to some guy I had just met. Perhaps we could do a similar thing?

 

I'm planning to get there early to meet some people and to get my tickets but then i have to make it back to the hotel and wait for about 25-30 of my friends to come because i booked the rooms =__=; I'm also in the Meet and Greet too so i have to stay over there for that. Soooo, i dunno if that's going to work out for me because isn't it around 4pm that you're allowed to go inside?? and that's when the Meet and Greet starts ^^;

 

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me! My mom got me the money order for the pre-registration, (with my money), and she paid for me to go to the meet and greet, too! (Call it a late B-day present ) Bad thing to forget, that.

If we're going to try to meet, though, we'll want to find a place where there won't be a lot of people, so it will be harder to mistake other people for us, right?

 

I was going as Kanna, but then my BFF called and she was going as Sango and her boyfriend was going as Miroku, so I'm going as Kirara ^_^

 

No offense, but how do you go dressed as kirara? The cat versioun is like yay big, and i don't think i would imagine someone as the big kirara.....it would be just.......*shudder*

Don't take it offensive, i just don't see how you could dress up as kirara. If it's not so much, you mind explaining?

heh heh, yea, i've never seen anyone go as Kirara before... but... it's possible in a way i guess. I've seen someone dress up as a Jaken which i find more freaky. I dunno, whoever wants a kirara though usually buys the plushie and walks around with it instead.

 

Wait this con is 27-29? Screw that. I have work. Though if any of you feel like bopping down to Oakville for a visit (subway + GoTrain = EASY), I won't mind.

I can't think of one good reason to go this year, although I see several reason why NOT to go:

1) no Japanese guests - seems they can't scrape up any $$$ for a proper Japanese guest and instead are having the fans to settle for their American/Canadian voice actors instead - maybe they can rename the event "Dubbed Con?"

2) Carl Macek is this year's Momiji Recipient? As an anime fan I am saddened and angered that HE is getting this award - seems the AN Con Com has been watching too many of those "dubbed" animes

3) the dealer's room - there's one dealer (1,000,000 Comics - a local Toronto store) that pretty much takes 2/3 of the dealer's room but has very little variety and worse charges a considerable bit more - why do I need to go to the con to get ripped off when I can just go to their store and be stiffed?

...that's just for starters - hope you folks enjoy it because I don't see any reason to go - and a few of my friends from past years have stopped going as well...

 

Honestly, I'd go if I could. I don't care about Japanese guests; Carl Macek has my respect for at least getting some great anime over here (if you think somehow we would have gotten it over here unaltered, I suggest you look at the market of the time); and I usually only go to buy stuff anyway.

 

yep - you are pretty much the type of "anime fan" this con is catering to - no respect for the original artists, producers, directors, seiyu, need I go on? As for Carl Macek and the so-called "great anime" you're referring to, I hope to God you don't mean his version of Akira that features the voice of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? :bleed:

 

Erm... could you please take this to a PM? It's starting to get off-topic, in my opinion; this thread was more about whether or not people were going to AN. I agree that a bit of healthy discussion about the con is a good thing, but something like this does need to be taken elsewhere, please. Thanks. ^^

As for me, there's no way I can afford to go, unfortunately.

 

Seems the fabled b.jp meet will have to wait with the rate things are going.
