As the subject states, I think cosplay is the stupidest thing that a person can do. Now don't get me wrong, when someone between the age of baby to 13 year old is in a costume, it's cute. When someone older does it, it's just embarrasing to look at. Why the f*ck do they do this? do they do it so people can call them a bunch of f*cking morons and should take their car and drive into tree? I make fun of cosplayers, call them fagets, tell them to get a life, or spill gasoline on themselves and commit suicide, help the economy out. and this doesn't just anime cosplay but also starwars and star trek cosplayers. I think they all suck!

    any disagreements?

hehe maybe cause when you are with the right ppl(not fat *** men that feel the need to dress up as sailor moon and yell out about something they paid for. that's just nasty) it can be loads of fun.

I dunno, *normal* cosplayers look kinda gaudy...so I can see where *some* of the hostility comes from. But people who know they look good, and *do* look good, and actually took time or at least effort to look good...I think they're pretty cool. Pretty damn brave to do so too. Hehehe.

Actually, I'm gonna cosplay for the next Anime Expo. My friend is too...but they're rather simple. He's gonna be Oe Kintaro and I'm gonna be Urashima Keitaro sporting a full fresh set of bruises. :sweat2: Actually...most the group I'll be attending with will be cosplaying...and since we're all friends, I think it'll be just fun.

So, yeah, I agree with BB.

I thinks it's all in good fun. I mean come on peopel have sex for fun people drink for fun. So why not dress up as you fave anime character. I myslef won't do it but it dosen't mean everyone else shouldn't do it as well. Besides who's it hurting any way when's the last time you heard some getting an STD or charged with DWI from dressing like an anime charcter

Why would anybody wear anything other than for function and comfort alone?
Why bother to live creatively at all? At least cosplay is a way of participating in some way, rather than being purely a consumer of other people's creative output.
With the exception of a few instances of lycra abuse that I have witnessed I'd have to say that cosplay is all good clean fun.

I've been known to appear on a public forum dressed as an anime character myself!

So, from the sound of things, pretty much everybody else who has bothered to respond to this thread doesn't really have a problem with cosplay, myself included.

Personally, I enjoy dressing up as a different character, simply because it's fun. Plain and simple. I dress up on Halloween, when I go to conventions, and sometimes just when I feel like it.

Of course, it should also be noted that my winter coat is a full-length blue-grey cloak and that I will regularly wear pseudo-medieval clothing just for fun.

It's rather hilarious when people dress up as Gundam too. Those one-eyed models are fine...cuz, all you need is to look like a big kettle. I guess that's easy enough to do. The catch is when people try to go as Wing and the other Gundams...*sigh*.

And I've seen MEN dress up as the Charats. It's horrible. ...I could give you the link if you want! :D

c0ke, where is your anime fun? I feel sad for you.
I'm not a "faget", I think it's fun to cosplay and be silly.
If you like a character, I think you should let your fandom shine.
I'm planing to cosplay at Anime-Expo next summer.
In a school outfit from either Gamerz Heaven, or school Rumble.

I don't know why you bumped a two year old thread just to post that, especially since c0ke is banned, but all I need to say is this: Some women who cosplay are incredibly sexy, including my girlfriend and Rem.

Amen Neph-man! True some people are embarrasing to watch (probably only because their costume sucked), but all the rest are great! Im not going to get too far into the subject anyways. But cosplaying is just a way for some people to have fun. If you admire a character and thinks he/she looks cool, then i cant stop you from cosplaying (not that anything made a difference, i still cant stop you from doing anything by sitting here).
Here's a good saying "To each his own!" (idk who first said this)
    XD!
    Is Cosplay stupid? NO!

    Here's the thing-

Cosplay is hella fun. I for one love making costumes and prancing around in them. You get to be in character and show off your skills. It's like Halloween but more often! It's very creative and, if done well, rewarding.

However, there are some shameless cosplayers out there, and yes, they disgust me as well. Like that fat Sailor Moon man. I have no idea why he's popular at all- I don't think he's funny, I think he's the kind of person who makes anime looks terrible. A 40 year old obese, hairy man in a sailor suit? What must people think!?!?!

But then again, it's always fun to laugh at horrific cosplay... as long as it doesn't scar your eyes. (Like "Man Faye," or notable others.)

    Eww...sounds gross...

Man Faye? Uhg....and I though I saw the worst. Guess I was wrong.
That is why I only endorse GOOD cosplay. If you're costume makes no sense or you're a fat guy playing a girl, get away from me.

Ooooh I saw the big fat 40 year old Sailor Moon guy XDDD He's all over the place image google him

As far as cosplay goes I think it's more about showing off design skill, you know people who really get into clothing design like showing their handy work. I have a friend who's done some cosplay and the costumes she makes herself are fantastic, she also gets buko bucks for selling them too. It could be various reasons though, Anime Patriotism, the afore mentioned show case, a need to honor the mangakas or seiyuus that come along, and there are also contests for that sort of thing...so maybe they want to win something (if I could win the entire series of a favorite anime or some door prize I'd dress up too). Many reasons, so no I don't think it's stupid...i think it's strange when 40 old, hairy, balding, men go around in a Sailor Moon scout outfit though...

40 of them!? Eeeww... I thought there was only one! :p

Anyway, I don't think cosplay is stupid, just ludicrously difficult. I'm planning on dressing as Otaru for Anime North, and I can't find anything that looks remotely like his clothes! I'm afraid I'm gonna have to get them custom made at a costume shop, instead.

    Haha

I remember seeing a signature of a Cosplay in here.. a Cosplay of Gai from Naruto.. Well the CosplayER was in a split formation and waved the thumbs up.. And there was an added message to the image with an arrow pointing to his crotch saying "WTF".. Right then I just started laughing.. It seems that the CosplayER pissed his pants or something doing that difficult pose.

I love cosplayers! I can only stand the good ones though, people who make their own costumes and make them well. If you're wearing something you bought from a costume shop then you're just a wannabe.

Yea, unless you bought some traditional costume from Japan, then it would be cool. Well, unless you are IN Japan, they maybe not so cool. Personally I would love to come up with the black traditional costume that Ichigo wears in Bleach when hes in shinigami mode, that is ultimately cool. Orange hair? No problem.

It helps if you have some friends to do it with, I tink some of the people who dis cosplaying dont have any friends. Plus, btw, people who go around calling people "fagets" dont deserve any.
