You know, I really hate how nowadays, people are just like, "Hey, I like this male anime character. He is a bishie." Bishie means "pretty boy", though... and last time I checked, Vegita was by no means a "pretty boy". So what do you guys think the "guidelines" for a Bishie are? I don't think that they necessarily have to be twiggy guys who are afraid of blood. :p

    Don't you mean Bishounen?

Bishounen = originally does mean pretty boy in japanese, but like many Japanese words this cna be wrapped into a different meaning. 'Pretty boy' cna become 'cute boy', 'hottie' etc. The literal menaing isn't entirely improtant. You remember the literal definition of otaku that Izzy gave us? :) Bishounen in general refers to a good looking guy, so if I think Kaiba is good looking, he is my, and only mine, Bishounen. :)

Bishie = just a cute shortening of both the words Bishounen and Bishoujo. :) was inevented by fangirlies I believe, sounds like Plushie if you ask me. n_n

Bishoujo = literalily means Cute girl, but like bishounen this cna be wrapped. However, due to how cute it generally sounds, it isn't that common for some one to sue it to descirbe a hot chick. ^^

    There. ^^

Well, in the fan community, bishounen has come to mean any male anime character that is attractive. They may or may not be girly; it isn't a requirement in the fan use of the word. Technically a bishounen is a young boy (no older than maybe...14) who is pretty, so usually feminine. A biseinen is older than that, but I can't remember where the cutoff ages are.

    bi means beautiful or pretty
    shounen means boy
    seinen means young man
    shoujo means girl

Then there's bijin....*grin* While it literally means "beautiful person" it is used to refer solely to women. I always remember it because it sounds like "vision" when the characters say it fast, and a vision (when referring to a person) is usually a very beautiful woman.

For me a Bishonen is a male character design that is very efeminate i.e. if you put breasts on him he'd easily pass for a female. Some times a hot female, I've read some pretty confusing manga where it's difficult to tell.

Although a lot of people regard any good looking male character as a bishonen.
