The high end Radeon cards offer better performance than the high-end GeForce cards.

    However.

The GeForce line is much more stable and better built. I get FAR less problems resulting from GeForce cards than I do from Radeon cards.

I have the ATi Radeon 9800 PRO and it runs as sweet as sugar... No technical problems encountered since buying it.

I guess it's luck sometimes... either way, they are top-notch cards...

If I were you Project191, think financially.... which ever is cheaper should be the one...

Shenlong, I work tech support. I've had to have countless ATI cards returned to me, but I only need one hand to count the number of GeForce cards I've had to have returned due to hardware failures, and that's zero.

Exactly... that's why I'm saying luck is on my side...

Listening to our tech man here (Ark)... who would have a greater deal of knowledge in the computing world than I do... go for GeForce cards... like he said, they are generally or mostly reliable.

go for nVDIA's offerings... like Ark said... grab a Geforce... anything above a FX5200U or Ti4200 will please you...

    And I though a 5600 was a "ok" buy... I was wrong...
this thing runs like a road runner on crack... for me... I had a mx400 before

Ark? are the new DET 5*.** any good?

    GeForce FX 5200 128Mb, a lot better!

But, nothing beats my onboard Geforce 4! XD I'm thinking of getting the 5200 just as a temp until I can afford something better. If you have $800 to spare get a Geforce 6800!

XP home will cause you pain.
XP Pro or Win2000 Pro, which ever is the cheapest.
    Also look at educational deals.
WinME was Satan's Own OS :)

actually, XP home and XP pro is the same :p
professional only has support for dual CPUs (that includes the HT)
and some additional security features that are useless for home users
