I just watched this classic anime and I believe is AMAZING!!!! Extremely cool and considering the time when it was made(1987) I believe it settled a new kind of anime movies with a mature and profound content.

But I´d like to know what the new generations think?

Personally, I liked it, but I am still more partial to other animes.

It is a great work of art, dont get me wrong, but I like others better. So, I would probably just say it is between Medocre and a Masterpiece. Probably an 8 out of 10.

It really is a classic...a lot of work went into it. They actually recorded the actor's voices before they completed the animation, and synched it. I love the weird bit with the teddy, rabbit and car...cool music too. "Kanedaaaaaa!"
    "Tetsuo-o-o-o!"

X site looks nice, Kamui, 'though can't really check it out properly since it's under construction! I've been meaning to get X on DVD. :dizzy:

I believe it is a great piece of art. It is a fabulous movie and was on of the first full length animes i had ever seen, so I'm quite partial to it. :anime:

Gotta say, Ghost In The Shell and Perfect Blue are 2 other movies that have advanced the form, in my opinion.

Mm... Akira was one of the very first examples of anime I'd ever seen, not counting bad dubs broadcast on American TV. XD Honestly, I found it interesting, but it's not on my list of favorites. It's certainly classic and worth watching, but it doesn't have the level of character depth that I tend to favor. I mean, what do we ever really learn about the characters? Not much. Of course, that's essentially because of the type of movie it is; not everything is character-growth-centered, nor should it be.

Long story short: my rating falls somewhere in the 6-7/10 scale. Interesting, worthy of thought and discussion, but not as impressive as it could've been.

And, because I'm a very visual person, I found the character design a bit of a turn-off.

    Opinion on Akira

AKIRA is indeed a good movie but I think there are definately better examples of anime out there Mononoke Hime for instance or Castle of Cagliostro. Alos I feel that the movie should've been more expansive like the manga... but what's done is done and what's done is a class movie :)

I agree that this is a good movie and that it is a true classic anime. I thought some of the special effects were really good. Like the effects of the lights on the bikes at the start of the movies were you can see a trail of light if the bike movies from side to side.

The movie was good but i think that there was just not enough depth into the film and i also thought that the end were Tetsuo transformed into that huge blob and crushed Kaori was a bit gross.
