I'm thinking about buying some, but I heard that the animation is substandard with wierd rainbows appearing on the screen...
Also, is the dubbing any good? I realise this is a difficult question as some people think that crap dubbing is good and are completely against subtitles.

Is it really as good as people make out, or is it like most hugely hyped shows that turn out crap?

Please don't bother to respond if you're going to only say "IT'S SWEET SWEET SWEET BUY IT BUY IT!!!!"

Sorry, just realised there is a post similar to this!

The animation wasn't too bad. I just never went overly well with this anime.

Nadesico sets up with a serious backdrop plot, but infuses most of its focus on humor plots. Unfortunately, these humor plots usually just never picked up too well on me - it can be hard to realize what's supposed to be a joke or serious sometimes...and that really retracted from my enjoyment. When it came to the jokes, I usually missed them, and when things got serious - it just never transferred well.

Well, I admit Gai was actually a real gem...too bad he didn't last past 3 eps...

The movie was an amazing piece of work. The animation was similar, but somehow, much better.

As for the series though, I liked it (though I have yet to watch the final 10 episodes). The animation, sometimes, detracts the overall appeal for me, because, I think Yurika looks pretty scary. I like the fact that there's a lot of serious plot in the story suffused with loads of humor for the first half of the series.

A lot of the humor though, I feel would be detracted by watching it dubbed. Watch it dubbed if you want, but you won't hear Akito screaming in Shinji's voice. I only feel that the dubbing is better, because though not everyone will catch it, sometimes the humor is in the wordplay rather than the antics. I don't catch them myself, but it's good to know they're there.

I enjoyed the movie immensely. Although, I *do* prefer Dual! Parallel Trouble Adventures to the Nadesico series. But, Ruri kicks all butt. So does Gai.

Those rainbow wouldn't appear unless the VHS is magnetized or there's something screwey with the DVD. Either way, complain about it and get a newer set. :D Oh, and when I watched, I noticed no "rainbows" so...yes.

Actually they would hear Akito scream with Shinji's voice. The english voice actor (I believe) is the same guy who did Shinji. Also, in the 'funerals' episode, Kauro (probably spelled wrong) makes a cameo!!!
