Inu-Yasha Japanese vs. English

Which do you think is better the Japanese Inuyasha voices or the English dub?

That's a tough one for me because I originally watched the show in English and have grown attached to the voices. I watch almost all anime in Japanese because i can't stand most dubs...but the Japanese voices just aren't what I'm used to with Inuyasha.

 

I can't really vote because I've never heard the Jap. version, but I'd probably stick w/ the American dub anyways. I have Cowboy Bebop on DVD and it has the option of watching it w/ subs and Jap voices, or watching the dubbed version, and I can't stand to watch the Japanese voices w/ the subs. Like you said before, I'm too used to the American voices to really accept the Japanese voices. It seems like everyone's voice jumped up about an octive to match Ed's.

I really like the deeper, cool/sexy voices they gave to Spike and Inuyasha in the English versions. Inuyasha's voice sound perfect for his character, in English, to me. It's not too deep and grown (since he's supposed to be what, the equivelant of a 17 year old?) but it's not high-pitched, either.

 

I prefer the Japanese version for sure. Since the usage of words seems cooler to me. And I also think "osuwari" sounds much better that "sit boy". And the way they say the names of the charicters seem interesting (mainly Naraku's name).

 

I prefer the Japanese, though Ocean Group didn't do too bad a dubbing job on this one. They're usually fairly good, compared to some other dub groups.

The reasons why I prefer the Japanese? It's the original language the series was meant to be viewed in. They pronounce the names the way they're supposed to be pronounced. Myoga isn't annoying. Kaede doesn't speak in mangled archaic. Naraku sounds more villainous to me. It helps me to learn Japanese better. I originally saw the series in the form of fansubs. I really like Yamaguchi Kappei (Inuyasha) and think his voice is perfect for the character. Yamaguchi Kappei is good at yelling.

Points for the dub: Kirby Morrow (Van Fanel's dub voice) did a good job on Miroku, which I like. The dub voice for Inuyasha (one of the dubs for Ranma) more or less matches the Japanese voice. My family can watch the series without having to read subtitles (which my Dad doesn't like because he can't read the subtitles as fast as I can). Beyond that, that's about it. The pronunciations make me twitch.

 

I'm not quite sure myself, but I think the dub is. Though there are some things in Japanese that I wish the characters would've said in the dub. Inuyasha's dub voice (Richard Cox's voice) is absolutely great. I wouldn't want Inuyasha to be played by anyone else. I get pretty annoyed with Yamaguchi Kappei's voice but I guess it sounds okay when the character is fighting. I just got another DVD and I heard Kikyo's Japanese voice and I was hoping it would sound better than in English (since many girls complain that Kikyo's english voice sounds too deep). I wish Kikyo can sound less strangled in Japanese, then she would sound perfect. She really does sound good, if only she didn't sound all choked up all the time. Kagome sounds okay in both languages. So does Shippo. I make fun of Sesshomaru's Japanese voice. Koga sounds good in Japanese. All in all, I like both and I really can't decide. But I'm more loyal to the dub.

 

I don't like the way the English Inu yells all the time. Not the yelling, but his voice when he yells.. It doesn't really sound like yelling, but.. I don't know.

One of the few things that I don't like about anime in general is the way they do these pauses for long moments w/ only sighs/gasps/whispers, ect. There's SO many times when the characters (instead of continuing conversations or thoughts) just say the other character's name like.. I don't know. When they do something wrong Kagome's mind's voice is just like "*gasp* Inuyasha.." and that's it! I get so tired of them just saying "Wha- Kagome..?" and NOTHING ELSE. They just stand there and look at each other and it's like.. JUST SAY IT!

Also, when characters are supposed to have been caught off guard or by surprise all anime characters go "huh?" or "Wha-?" all the time.

Sorry, one of my peeves about anime. It can be SO intelegent, for half of the show's dialogue to consist of no more than "huh?"

 

I like the english dub better...because I speak english. I prefer not to watch subs because i get really annoyed at not being able to look away from the screen for a second without missing a line.

 

i preferd both althogh i like the Japanese ver. more. but if u r talking about the inuyasha they did a great job on the dubing

 

I can take either just fine. I do wish the English version would pronounce the names better though. I love Richard Cox as Inuyasha; he's so perfect for the roll. Kelly Sheridan makes Sango sound like she's 12 years old, but her Jap voice sounds perfect for her. Sesshoumaru's English voice is sexy, but I hate his Jap voice. Naraku sounds perfect in both. Miroku sounds fine in both. Shippou, Jaken and Myouga are annoying in both.

I like the dub and sub. I haven't heard Shippo, Sango, or Miroku in the sub yet, but I still think they're both cool.

 

I never heard the Japanese, but I would prefer it more than the dub. Many of the English voices in Inu-Yasha are annoying. Especially Kagome's.
When it comes choosing between the Japanese and English voices in anime, for me, it depends. If the dub is good, I watch the dub, but if the dub is bad, I'll stick to the subtitles.

 

I really enjoy the show a lot better when I can understand what they're saying, the Japanese InuYasha IS cool, given that it IS InuYasha, but, being in English, the dubbed version is better in my opinion. :shy3:

 

I do like them both okay but I still would rather go for the Japanese version over the English version. It's sort of not the same without Inuyasha cussing ^_^ And Kaede's english voice sort of stinks but I have to thank God that they didn't mess it up like Dic messed up Sailor Moon. Ever since then I think dubbers have been careful not to make the same mistake.

 

Personally I like english better cuz Richard Cox fits the role without even having to try, he's perfect for that role, and he does cuss in the AS vers. maybe not as much, i dunno.

You go Basher-san! You tell it how it is ^_^ They really did ruin Sailor Moon. At first I saw Sailor Moon in English and thought it was the best thing in the world because it was the only anime I ever saw before me Neighbor Totoro. But then I saw other anime's and I thought about Sailor Moon and says "this stinks" and thought DIC was a terrible company to do that to them. So now I like the original Japanese version of Sailor Moon best of course cause it's the most original.

i say english is better, because i can understand it. but the original japanese ones are ok if there are subs.

 

subbed versions ARE good though, they're making me learn more japanese, so im greatful for that, its fun to walk into a room and just spout something out and see the blank expressions on your friends faces. I have nothing against subs, and i can't compare them to dubs cuz all the subs ive seen are after the AS inuyasha ends, but ep. 38 sub was friggin hilarious.
