Inu-Yasha Kikyo's Masochistic Tendencies

It occured to me...the other day that Kikyo is one hell of a masochist (masochist: The deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from being humiliated or mistreated, either by another or by oneself).

Why is she a masochist? She seems to have a knack for um...falling off cliffs. And, even though her body is made of clay and she just *bounces* right off the rough, rocky surfaces...one would imagine that it would still hurt...and perhaps be somewhat painful.

The First Fall:
Episode 15
Kikyo is resurrected and tries to kill Inu Yasha. Kagome manages to call back her soul into her body and Kikyo runs off like a little coward to keep Kagome from taking back all of her soul. As she's blindly ambling along...she slips and falls over the edge of a cliff. Inu Yasha manages to get there just in time and holds on to her. He wants her to give Kagome back her soul and just let things be. Well, Kikyo is BEYOND pissed at this. She screams: That's what you wish for isn't it....to see my death?!" She then promptly zaps Inu Yasha's hand with her miko energy and he's forced to let her go. She then goes falling backwards into the mist...

The Second Fall:
Episode 47
Kikyo is running away from Naraku's giant schinidamachuu who is sucking in all the souls in the area. Kikyo stops to try and kill him...but fails miserably. She misses him not once...but TWICE with her purifying arrows. She then gets back on her horse to make a get-away. Except that doesn't work...cuz the youkai catches up to her and almost eats her. She falls off her horse and...you guessed it....off a cliff. It's quite funny actually...she's falling...falling...falling then *DING* she bounces off the side of the rock face. LOL.

The Third Fall:
Episode 124

Spoiler: Third Fall

So Kikyo shows up at Mt. Hakureisan to face down Naraku. She is overconfident and doesn't know what hit her when Naraku puts a gash in her shoulder. Oh...apparently he doesn't have Onigumo's heart anymore and he can now kill Kikyo at will. So Kikyo is royally screwed. Naraku sends his evil tentacles right at Kikyo and they pierce her through that same shoulder. The force of the hit sends Kikyo falling off *A CLIFF* backwards and into a river of Naraku's miasma below

So, someone really ought to tell her that there ARE many and much safer methods of transportation...even in the feudal era. Such methods as walking, running, horse-drawn carriage...or even being carried around by her schinidamachuu. But honey...falling off cliffs ain't one of them.

I'll be honest though...I do get a kick out of watching her fall off cliffs. It's hella funny!

People may say Kagome is a total clutz...but I don't think she's ever fallen off a cliff...let alone done it THREE TIMES. LOL. Seems Kikyo is more of a clutz to me!

 

I think you should label some of those as spoilers.

I understand there are 2 falls, but 3? I think something's amiss here. From what you typed, Naraku's giant schinidamachuu sucking all the souls from the land, correct? I own this volume and she does not fall of a cliff. She missed twice? She missed once. I'm not going to say anything else because it will spoil some mangas and episodes for others.

This just mainly shows that Kikyou is hard to kill. The anime sure likes to exaggerate things.

 

In the anime version she DOES miss twice and she DOES fall off a cliff. Here are the clips:






Kikyo hard to kill? Well, it wasn't the FIRST time she was killed. Naraku was able to easily get her to turn on Inu Yasha. And Kikyo with all her "great miko power" was not able to discern that the Inu Yasha that supposedly attacked her was Naraku (who puts out a lot of evil energy) in desguise.

Now she's already dead and walks around as such. How much more can you kill an already dead thing? LOL

Kikyou, has had very good shots though, like in Kikyou's Lonly Journey I think was the name. Wow, Kikyou fell off of a cliff. Kagome wears super short skirts that, in most school people would ban, but that is her school outfit..hm.... Maybe it is a school for want to be prostitutes?!
lol, that was a joke..( before Kagome's Arrow comes in find that post and writes an essay on the Kagome and her cloths. )

She probably missed the shot because the demon was taking out her energy, Kikyou needs the souls to be able to use energy. Also about Kikyou not being able to detect Naraku then. I am pretty sure that Naraku did hide his sent knowing that Kikyou would be able to tell and Kikyou most likley wasn't on full guard.

I have nothing to say about the Naraku thing because I am not there yet, but thanks for the spoiler!

 

Ya, don't even try to start the whole "she wears a really short skirt and therefore is slutty and a prostitute" (even a *groan* "joke"). Kagome's Arrow will not be the only one who can post a 3 page essay on it...complete with footnotes and references! LOL.

Kikyo missed the first shot before losing any of her souls. I'll maybe cut her some slack on the second miss cuz she had some souls sucked out but...it's still a wake up call for those who claim Kikyo is perfect in every single way and is so awesome she never misses anything and can take on anything. Well, she DOES miss, she's far from perfect and when she does try to take something on by herself she usually ends up falling of a cliff somewhere. LOL.

It's not his scent that Naraku would have to hide. The smell department is up to Inu Yasha. Kikyo was trained to pick up on evil energy MILES before it got to where she was. But the "great miko" was either slacking in her duties or losing her edge...cuz there was that one time (in the spring special)

where she was with Kaede in the forest teaching her how to shoot arrows and a whole bunch of demons just swarmed the village and Kikyo didn't even feel 'em comin'. That lead to a huge fight and Kaede losing her eye.

Your probably right, she was lacking in her power as a Miko. She wanted a normal life and all so she probably wasn't all up for training and all. Kikyou is not perfect or she would still be alive, or dead from old age. She was a good Priestess though. If she wasn't than she would have died long before InuYasha and the Jewal would be anywhere.

Kikyou just probably missed the shot, that doesn't make her a bad shooter.

Once again, the anime strays from the manga. *sigh* Yes, in the anime she misses twice in that scene, and falls off a cliff three times. But in the manga, it is different. Besides, who cares if she misses a couple times? She is quite skilled with a bow and arrow, and everyone messes up sometimes, especially when, you know, your souls are being sucked out...

i'd run away too. i mean, that's partially kinda your soul too. kikyo looked kinda dazed and sick when she slipped and fell off the cliff. (nobunaga fell off the 'cliff' twice when he was perfectly fine. ) kikyo seemed really weak and didn't have much energy to even walk too. so i guess that's what you called her being a coward. and inuyasha telling her to just give 'back' her soul to her 'reincarnation,' i'd be totally pissed. might even kill both of them... but you just feel betrayed. twice in her case.

lol. nothing to say to that. so she missed her target twice, big deal. in the 3rd movie, kagome missed hitting that ugly ogre with the beads when rin and her were in that building twice or so too.

ep. ... uh. that last one.

wrong place, wrong time. well, actually, right when she landed by naraku, the ground kinda broke off, so the cliff made itself just suddenly. she had nothing to do with it. she wasn't exactly 'royal screwed' because it's kinda difficult to kill her. (maybe not, but hey, she already died once. not gonna make the same mistakes.) plus, she's got those little chibi kids helping her out...

i still don't understand how kikyo's a masochism thing. falling off the cliff...

alright. that really didn't explain anything, but after it got erased... i just got tired. lol... i'll write a better thing later...
