there is no legit release of the first season. unless you're in japan. and then, it just went out of print. and the second season is getting ready for it.
hunt down castle of cogliostro. not a bad dub, just, the 90 year old man that does lupin's voice rules. best bet is to find fansubbers online to help you out. right stuff is slowly doing the tv series special movies. which are meant to be watched in a certain order. which is why the geminii diamond one didn't feel right when watching. haven't watched that last one out yet.
i would check out http://www.rightstuf.com/ for some release info. along with animenation as they'll be easier to hunt the dates down thru. right stuff will tell you if they're doing anymore. Tokyopop is translating the manga, which the first season follows more closely. which means it's kinda dark, and a bit more ...randy..heheh
if ya want a little more of the lupin-ish goodness, get yourself some japanese fonts for your web browser and head over to Monkey Punch and check out the little samurai comic he does for the site. he discovered flash and is having fun. not bad for a man in his 60's at least. *^-^*

Lupin the 3rd: The World's Most Wanted is available in stores around the United States (I can't speak for other countries), and it contains five episodes that were released on Japanese television. I'm not sure where they fall in in terms of series or OVAs . . .

You can easily get fansubs of many of the Lupin movies (try soyokazefans.com).

Tokyopop is also releasing Lupin III manga. Yay for monkeypunch!

As to where you should start for the series . . . I can't really say there's a good place to start. I began with Castle of Cagliostro . . . I think the best thing to do is to find out about the characters and background before diving into the Lupin world so you're more comfortable with them (for there's really little to no exposition on them in the movies).

i get the feeling that they didn't start at the first episode of the first series either. I hate it when they do that.

thing to remember, is they aren't gonna start you with the first season because of the intense graphic violence and sexual inuendo. in theory, we're started in the third season, but i won't be able to say for certain until they show the stupid opening bit. sigh

I have only seen about 9 episodes of this anime, but it's already one of my favorites. It has well balanced characters and loads of hilarious jokes. It's good, but it's no Cowboy Bebop.

Funny you should mention Cowboy Bebop. Is it just me,or there similarities between the characters of the two series?

Lupin acts like Spike at times.
Fujiko acts like Faye at times.
That guy with the beard(his name escapes me)acts like Jet,he also sounds like Jet in the dub.

Hey,you're right! They are similar, yet they were made about 30 years apart.By the way,the guy with the beard's name is Jigen. He does kind of sound like Jet.I'd say that the differences outweigh the similarities, though.

The samurai's name is Goemon. Jigen is definitely the guy w/ the beard.

goemon is a samurai with an eye for money. jigen has an eye for great sharp shooting. lupin just likes the shiny things. fujiko likes shiny things more.
lupin is from the 70's, so spike is alot like lupin. extremely like him actually.
