Hahaha, that's funny, but disrespectful at the same time. I'm not interested in it anyway (that anime), so I don't really care.

It seems stupid, but what would you expect from major corporate conglomerates like Fox and advertising mega-corporations like 4kids? They do have a few valid points, if you look at it from a marketing perspective.
(By the way, I fully expect to get beaten for saying that, so don't feel bad if you have to do so)

Erm, Tokyo Mew Mew happens to bo one of my FAVORITES animes. I am utterly disgusted. I already saw this article, though. As with anything 4kids (funimation) brings to America, it's going to be a humiliation to anime! I'm not gonna watch it. They'll cut stuff out and change the op/end, have horrid voice actors... probably change Ichigo's name to "Michelle" or something... but worst of all: It's Tokyo Mew Mew!!! NOT Hollywood Mew Mew!

    Quote from the article:

North American children will, however, not be introduced to Tokyo Mew Mew, but rather Hollywood Mew Mew. Regarding the process of localization, 4Kids CEO Al Kahn stated, "By the time we localize the programs kids don’t even know they’re from Japan any more."

That explains so much about why broadcast dubs almost always suck... -_-; I'm absolutely sickened by that. Rice balls in Pokemon becoming "jelly doughnuts" was insulting enough, but this is just... outright offensive. Do they think that the show would be less popular if it was set in Japan? (If I remember correctly, Digimon's kids still lived in Japan in the dub, and it did just fine.)

I mean, heaven forbid that American children should actually be exposed to other cultural influences! Let's keep them ignorant. -_-; It would destroy their delicate minds to know that their favorite show is from Japan, after all. *rolls eyes*

If you judge this dub without watching it first, aren't you just as bad as the marketing firms who decide a series set in Japan wouldn't sell without trying it first?

Well judging from experience, most people could be quite confident to predict such outcomes for a dubbed version of any new anime. I mean, for Initial-D they renamed so many of the characters, turned a tofu delivery boy into a pizza boy, etc. I never heard about the "jelly doughnuts," but that's pretty whack too.

I guess there is some truth to what the guy said, that kids won't even know the series is from Japan.
