Okay, this has me confused (Hi btw, I'm new)

How are there Rainforests in England? On the www.zatch-bell.com it says "While exploring a rainforest in England, Kiyo's archaeologist father discovers Zatch, an unconscious mamodo child."

Okay, I understand that it's an Anime, and can take artistic license, but RAINFORESTS IN ENGLAND? Very interesting.

I missed the first episode, is this accurate?

I grew up in England, and this is pretty funny =)

The story is fictional from what I understand. I wouldn't take much stock in it. Maybe like centries ago when Pangaea was present.

Chalk it up to stupid and lazy writing.

Actually, rainforests in England aren't as impossible as many people may believe. This is most likely a reference to temperate rainforests.

Contrary to popular belief, rainforests are not just the jungles located on or around the equator. There are pockets of rainforest in northwestern Europe (an area which includes England) among other places. While most of the rainforests in the British Isles are no more, there may still be small pockets of them around.

So, as Zatch Bell is a series set in an alternate reality from ours, it is entirely possible that the temperate rainforests of the British Isles are still in existence in that reality. Even today there are areas of England that get the requisite amount of rainfall, they just don't have the trees necessary to be rainforests.

That's still a big push, and given that it's an English website, odds are it's meant to be read with the colloquial term in mind - that is, a jungle. Given the target audience of the show, the common interpretation is what's likely to be thought of (Sort of like how we call Windows an operating system when it's more of an operating environment).

Other sites describe it as a forest ( http://www.tv.com/zatch-bell!/show/33175/episode_guide.html ).

Actually, in a later episode, Gash goes back to the 'rainforest' it's really just a forest.. it's not really that big, or doesn't look that big.

Anyways, I can just ask my demon companion if this is true or not, and we may check england out, but I hear it's dangerous, and we need to train more.

    dictionary - rainforest:

A dense evergreen forest occupying a tropical region with an annual rainfall of at least 2.5 meters (100 inches).

n : a forest with heavy annual rainfall [syn: rain forest]

The thing is, I think that forest is a mystery in the show and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a tropical temp/rainfall climate pocket in that universe.
But I forget it being called a 'rainforest'.

It didn't rain even once in Gash's flashbacks when he stayed there for a lengthy period, and when later they went. So ya, it may just be a mistake it was called a rainforest.

Or maybe they were expecting people to have enough brains to figure out that they weren't meaning jungle. *shrug*

I'd have to look at the Japanese sources to see what term is being used in Japanese, and I will admit to being far too lazy (that, and I don't really want to spend any money on the series; it never caught my attention).

Yeah how dare people look at a term and visualise the common usage of it!

Edit: It's like the words queer, fag and gay - they have other meanings, but there's specific meanings associated with them nowadays. If you saw a sign that said "Fag Burning this Friday" you aren't going to think of bundles of sticks.
