Anime Record of Lodoss War: Legends of the Heroic Knight (TV)

Okay has anyone seen these? How are they? I have the original Record of Lodoss and while I thought it was good, I also thought it could have been better. How does the new series compare to the older one? Is it worth buying... or is this one strictly a rental.

P.S. Does anyone know the difference between the original release of Lodoss War on DVD and the new collectors edition that was recently released?

 

on a side note, has anyone played that Lodoss War game that came out for the Dreamcast?

 

I've got the OVA and the TV Series on DVD, and they're both excellent.

Now, as for the chronology, its a little weird. You can't piece them together due to conflicting events.

When they made the OVA, they thought they'd never get a chance and so basically remade A LOT of the story so it'd fit without needing to introduce new people.

Then they got the budget to do a tv series and said "lets redo that second half and get it done right."

So basically, the closest you can get to the 'right' timeline with Lodoss anime, is the first 9 or so eps of the OVA up to the War of Heroes, then the second half of the next episode, where they try to confront Kardiss. You would ignore the part with Orson and Shiris. Then you would watch the TV series. Also, you'd have to ignore some visuals of the War of Heroes.

Although more people like the OVA, the TV series is more true to the books.

 

Well, it's been a few years since I saw Legends, but I thought it was very good. Especially the little SD scenes after each episode.. Hup hup, Parn!

Would have to watch some of it again to verify that it is good though. Might be a plan for the weekend...

i thought the original record of lodoss war was really good, i havent seen the newer ones tho, so i wouldnt kno if they were ne good

 

Freakin' Eh! Those SD scenes made me watch them all subbed AND dubbed, because there are different jokes in each.

And yeah, its good. Some people don't like how the animation isn't as good as the OVA, but I think its just fine. Some people also like the story of the OVA more, and while its good, so is the tv series.

 

I've no idea, and honestly a tad PO'ed at them for doing this. I got the original release only a year and a half ago.

But from what I hear, there doesn't seem to be a big need to get the new collectors edition if you've got the original.
