I just got the dvd a few weeks ago, this is pretty good, i haven't seen the ovas but i'm certain this isn't a macross plus job(as in the movie is the edited ovas) Its set after/during the ruroni kenshin series as far as i can see as it is fairly light hearted and not really deserving of the samurai x name. Anyone else seen this?

it is most certainly not a Macross Plus job, the OAVs are a 'prequel' of sorts to the series, they happen during the Meiji Revolution, and are the story of Kenshin's scars (well, that's what I say, there certainly are other things others could say about them)
The OAVs present possibly the best tragedy I've ever seen, the animation is beautiful, and the score is breathtaking.
A previous discussion on this forum stated the following point, this isn't verbatim, nor do I remember the author. 'People tend to like the either TV series or the OAVs'
Like I said, the OAVs are tragic; the TV series is much less so, the beginning is positively comedic. Later on (i.e. the Kyoto Arc) the series does get more serious, but it still doesn't cross into the same genre as the OAVs.
I highly reccomend the OAVs to anyone, and for heaven's sake, reverse the covers! This isn't Samurai X! (a name that just screams Japanese porno) 'Sides, the inside of the covers are just so much cooler.

Oops, I seem to have gotten carried away again.

As a disclaimer, I really do like the TV series, especially the Kyoto Arc, but not as much as the OAVs. Sanosuke friggin' rocks!

I love both the OVA and the series, then again I try not to be critical of any anime I watch.

One should look at the different aspects of things, there is at least one or more good one. An example is the beautiful artwork and storyline (etc.) makes the OVA great. The comedy and action (etc.) make the series great.

I agree that Samurai X is a horrible name though(can't find good aspects of that name [IMG]). It sounds like someone was out to turn Kenshin into Power Rangers.

I have the OVA and Im not guilty for spending my money on it because its really something .. the artwork is great, the coloring is fantastic, the character designs are realistic, the dialogue is perfect............I could recommend every small aspect of this anime and it will take forever

I recommend it to everyone [IMG]

Not to push this discussion out of its intended OVA scene, but about "Requiem for the Ishin Shishi", the Kenshin movie, and not the OVA compilation "Tsuikoden"... has anyone seen Requim, and has a comment about it for me?

And yes, Samurai X sounds like a cheap B movie about a giant robotic killing machine from Japan...(or maybe that porno UK's been watching [IMG])

BakaMattSu, wonders how many disappointed Spanish speakers stumbled onto his own website from Google with search keys like "sexo japones"...Sadly, 'twas my best search engine match for a while, but don't ask me why...
