You're in luck. I cosplayed Sesshoumaru at Anime Expo just two weeks ago, so I can give you some tips I used for my costume.

Yes, be sure to get the fluffiest faux fur you can find for the tail. It's going to hurt your wallet lots, but it'll be worth it, trust me. ::spent $30 on just the fur alone::

I recommend painting the designs on the gi (shirt-thing) and obi (sash). For best results, go to your local fabric or craft store and try to find a fabric medium to mix with the paint. It'll help the paint stay in the fabric better.

Purchase a long white wig and cut bangs into it if you have to. The wig and the fluff really make the costume.

Get your makeup at Wal-Mart. It's cheapest. Be sure to take reference pictures to get the color right.

Try to make sure you can sit in your armor, or you're going to have a very tiring day.

Don't bother with Toukijin if you can't find a good sword to work for it. Make sure you have Tenseiga, though. Just buy a toy katana at a local costume or toy shop and paint it the right colors.

Make sure your pants are poofy.

Try not to be shiny if you can help it. Sesshy isn't shiny.

Don't bother with fingernails or pointy ears unless you can afford them. They're really just finishing touches. I didn't have either on, and was still told I was the best Sesshoumaru at AX (I'm not trying to brag, I really was told that by a few con attendees).

If you want extra help with the armor, e-mail me (address is in my profile). ^_^

    Ganbatte!

I'd show you pictures of my costume, but I don't have my photos scanned yet and no one else online seems to have pictures of me up (despite all the people getting my picture Saturday and Sunday).
