You'll like the drawings made by Yumisuke Kotoyoshi. They're very curved and sensual. The artist comes from the hentai anime. Maybe he draws a with a bit of unpropotion, but it's not any mistake.

I'm not exactly sure if that style appeals to me. So he's an experienced hentai drawer, heh? It shows...

I've read the scanslated first volume in entirety. It is very slanted in the fanservice direction...I do prefer the anime a million times over. Still...I'm a sucker for SMJ merchandise... :p

It's all Akahori Satoru's fault ;). When he writes any script for a manga, novel, etc, he tries to give a chance to any who's new at manga, anime. He did that with Tsukasa Kotobuki for the original novel (that seems to be the longest, deepest and adult version of the series) and it seems that Kotobuki also was introduced to anime with SMJ. If you watch SMJ's first episodes, the animation is a bit static. But in the very last episodes (on board Mesopotamia, the fight with Leopard) the animation is quite dynamic. Kotobuki thanked Akahori every time he could for giving him such a chance. He came from the Doujinshi manga.
    Something alike happened with Kotoyoshi.
Wholly, the manga version of SMJ is shorter than the anime, has another ending and some other filler episodes are in. But although the story turns itself in order to set its own path from takoubon #3, I think that it's ok.
And the drawings are ok. They're just different. But that doesn't means less quality or anything like that.

There are a total of five volumes covering pretty much the same storyline as the SMJ anime. There's also a special parody volume, but not sure if that's on tokyopop's target list as well...

There are some major deviations, and the manga seems to dip into sexual situations and innuendo much more haphazardly. Still, as the SM freak I am, I must have... :p

In order to show Kotoyoshi's style at Saber Marionette's manga, here's a pic of Takoubon #2
