So,how many of you experimented with the Spanish dub of SMJ? SMJ Again? What were your impressions, and how did it compare to both the English dub and the original Japanese?

I'll weigh in with my thoughts later. For now I just wanna hear what you have to say.

I've only seen the SMJ spanish dubbed. My impression is that it's better than the English dubbed. At least they got some screaming parts correct >=P But still, like for goodness sake, the JAPANESE STILL ROCKS ^o^ (I don't even need to say it...)

Has anyone seen the Chinese dub? Sachi has been kind enough to send me a few clips (mhhhh... Hanagata in Chinese ^________^) and I must say this dub is FANTASTIC! Everyone (including Lime ^_^v) is almost perfectly cast, and Hanagata doesn't sound nearly as fey as he does in the English dub ^^. The spanish dub Otaru, btw made me laugh. He kind of reminded me of the guy on the Simpsons who wears the bee costume and does the weird soap opera-style show on the Spanish channel.

Thank you thank you, Aoi-chan! ^o^ I truly do love the Chinese dub. I only have the JtoX one though. I'd LUV to share it with you all, but the files are waayy huge :dizzy2: If I could find a way to convert MPG files into ASF files, then I could. Hmm, I know I'll find some ways!! :D Anyone suggest any free programs or softwares I could use?

    *Experienced Video Guy*

Heh...I know just the tools to use... since most of the media out there nowadays is HUUUGE and hi-quality, making my little-old P-133 chuck, rather than play...

    Thing's you'll definately want:

-DivX Codec: the best compression/quality ratio out there IMHO (http://www.divx.com/)

-VirtualDub: my favorite (freeware!) video editing tool :) (http://www.virtualdub.org/)

Here's the quick and dirty run-thru:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm

Open up yer MPEG with virtual dub, set your processor settings, then hit encode (usually takes a while, evenb on good processors)... but there ya go...

To get my standard quality (i.e. smaller file), use the following settings when you encode:

    Audio
    -----
    -MPEG Layer-3 [i.e. MP3] (32 kBits/sec 22,050 Hz, 8-bit Mono)

    Video
    -----
    -DivX ;) MPEG-4 Fast-Motion
    -Keyframe every 10 seconds
-Compression Control 50 (best Mix of quality/motion)
    -Data Rate 268 kBits/second

With these options, it runs about 300 kBits/sec, meaning a half-hour video ends up being about a 40 meg AVI...

But there ya go...my re-encode methods...as always, I'm here for support or flaming...

BakaMattSu, how many languages does he hafta learn before he finally sees this thing??

    late, but here ^^;

I personally loved the Spanish dub. It made me feel all mushy inside! ^^; The voices were much closer to the originals than the English dub, and the translations were that much better. They got the curses perfectly. (Well, excluding "sh*t", since nobody I know uses a word like that to curse in Spanish. One would more likely use… words that are censored in my region. ^^;; Though in other places, Spain, I think, they're not censored.)

Chinese? ^^ Sugoi! I'd love to see that. ^_^ Again about the Spanish version, I can say so much more about it… ^^; It really was the better dub (well, of the two dubs I've seen meself ^^)

    ~*Phox-chan

    PS-
Now I'm watching the whole J series (well, what I own of it, which are eps 10-25) in Spanish. :shy: Oh, and... I also go by GataFairy, in case anyone actually cares..

I guess it's time I gave my opinion of the Spanish dub...

Overall,it was better than the English dub,but not by much...Lime's Spanish VA would probably have been better off playing Baiko or Tamasaburo, for all the emotion she put into the role. Cherry was a little better, though if I hear her say "Mi Senor Otaru" one more time,I think I'll puke! Everyone else seemed pretty well matched to their character, and there were no egregious translation errors that I found.

I had a few issues on the style and presentation side as well. First there was an annoying tendency to narrate just about every single !@#$%&* piece of written text. Secondly, from ep. 10 on,they apparently decided to set the "Next Episode" previews to "I'll Be There." This was an interesting innovation, however, the preview for "You'll Always be There" (ep. 25) just isn't the same without "Maa,Iika" playing in the background.

InuYasha - and that's my $0.02 on the issue.

    Spanish dub, YAY!

Hi there! At last i got in an SMJ forum, wheeee!!!! (Lime excited).

First of all, spanish dubs were made by Mexican ppl, mexican dubs are the BEST spanish dubs ever. Compared with southamerican dubs (i.e. Rouroni Kenshin aka Samurai X)... well south americans need WAY TOO MUCH practice!

I talked to Cristina Hernandez, the spanish dub for Lime. She loves that character, and got sad when the series ended (aaawww). Her other favorite dubbed char is cardcaptor Sakura.

I have an interview with her i plan to publish. If you care and want to see it mail me and i'll keep in touch with her.

I loved the dubs. Lime's voice was so cute and realistic. It might not match Megumi's, but it fit the character perfectly. Specially when Lime's nearly asleep and asks: "Otaru..." (sniff - makes me cry).

Well, the chapter where the gartland combat marionettes invade Japoness is awful, when they're being disabled they look like a sexual scene instead of death scene heheheh if you know what i mean :p

I liked Cherry's voice. And Otaru's voice was much better than the original japanese (IMO). In Japanese, his voice is too high-pitched, sounded almost like a woman.

The Hana spanish dub is hilarious - i'd say matches the japanese (the style, not the pitch).

In general, the dubs were excellent. Too bad they missed dubbing the end-chapter announcements. But oh well :D that helped me to listen more to the originals :)

    RICKYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    *glomps*

^^ Wai wai, you made it!!! ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ Great to see you here! :catgirl:

Yes, the Spanish v/a for Hana was wonderful. ^^ And I figured it was Mexican because of the way they pronounced things. (When I was younger and I'd play weird RPG-type games with my friends and/or cousins, we'd always talk "in character", and now that I think about it, it was an almost Mexican accent. ^^)

Oooo… Can I see the interview? ^^ I'm just curious. She was an excellent Lime. (No need to translate it, though) You know my address.

    *realises she's still clinging to him* Oops… :blush: Hehe… *releases him* ^^;

    Funny you should say that...

IIRC,Yuka Imai (Otaru's Japanese seiyuu) IS a woman.

InuYasha - Man,I feel like I'm Matt Drudge by saying that...

Lime's voice in the spanish dub sounds phantastic and matches very well her lines.

Tiger's voice sounds like Marlene Dietrich (a bit low pitched and sexy)

I think it's a very good dub, except for the lasts chapters of J to X. It's more a translation problem than a voice's one.

I prefer the original JAPANESE one

I don't like the spanish one.

I whatched the SMJ to X in spanish and less than 60% is the same as in english and/or japanese

-Cherry: Rosy Aguirre (Akane Tendo,Buttercup of the PPGs,Rio in Burn Up W and X,Gosalyn in Disney's Darkwing Duck).

-Hanagata:Ricardo Tejedo (Kovu in The Lion King II).
