Saber Marionette Tenchi Before SMJ Or the Other Way Around?

    i didnt exactly wanna make a new thread just for this but im thinking that there will be many posts because of this hopefully anyways well which was it? who copied who, i mean did tenchi muyo copy SMJ or was it the other way around? i know all of u have really good points why this isnt like tenchi but i think it is only to one obvious point...... 1 guy + serveral girls = Tenchi Muyo and SMJ.

    I think tenchi was first.

    Officially, SMJ was released in 1996. But curiously, SMJ was written _AFTER_ SMR. And this is a rather different story, yeah it's somewhat Tenchi-muyo'esque, but very different.

    The "one guy, several cute females" is an anime cliche. But I think SM is different from Tenchi Muyo, Love Hina or Oh My Godess.

    The serialization of the SMJ novels that started it all began in mid-1995. Which logically places J to be the first written Saber Marionette material. I think the confusion is with the fact that the SMR anime was produced first.

    kapitanbar's right about the cliche. Tenchi Muyo! came before SMJ, but going further back, even, you can see the one guy/several girls method in old works like Urusei Yatsura. None are really a direct copy, but they definately get inspiration from their predecessors.

    How many sci-fis use tricks from Star Wars or Star Trek? How many reality shows are busting out all over nowadays? Can you say these shows are direct copies? Not always...
