well technically Dilandu is really a guy. or so the rumor goes...cause Allen's little sister disappeared...and if you notice Dilandu looks a whole heck of a lot like her...and he has no real history...

Dilandau is male. Celena, Allen's sister, is female. The fact that Dilandau happens to be Celena under a greatly altered thread of fate (causing her to be male and horribly violent) does not negate the fact that he is male.

In the movie, Dilandau is in no way, shape, or form related to Allen. In fact, from the sound of things, he's the illegitimate child of someone from one of the Dragon Clans (hence his ability to control Alseides).

So yeah. It really can be argued either way. I prefer to not think about it too much, if only because it's easier that way.

Umm Celena through Experiments Of the Mages (think taht what they were called) was altered and transformed into Dilandu. Both are the same person. Just Split personalities. its the Same Concept as the HULK. So Dilandu is still Allen sister..

So where you got the ( "he's the illegitimate child of someone from one of the Dragon Clans (hence his ability to control Alseides)." ) I have no Idea. Unless your talking about the movie which realy does not count because it explains nothing.. and in the Movie the Split person does not even coming into the story. Its only the Series thats its all explained..

If you can prove me wrong tell me where its explained in the movie.!

Kame, please note that I said I was talking about the movie. In the movie, Folken says that the reason Dilandau is able to control Alseides is because the blood of the Dragon clan runs through his veins, albeit in a less-than-pure form (which would happen if his ancestors married outside of the clan, or if he were the illegitimate child of one of the clansmen). Folken mentions this fact at the point where he's chewing out Dilandau for failing, then asking Dilandau if he wants more power.

The movie and the series are alternate realities of each other. In fact, if you want to make things really confusing you can bring the manga in to the picture. Both versions of the manga. In the shoujo version, Dilandau is quite firmly female for the entire thing, apparently.

When discussing the TV series....I still say that Dilandau is, in essence, male. He takes his shirt off, for crying out loud! The fact that he is a result of the Zaibach sorcerers doing fate alteration experiments on the female Celena is incidental to whole situation. Other than raising the question "if you alter someone's fate enough, will their gender and/or personality be radically altered as well?" of course.

While this is a similar concept as the HULK or Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde, there is one significant difference. Neither of the aforementioned characters change gender as part of their transformations. Their physical size changes, and personality definitely changes, but gender remains constant.

There are other reasons I can see for Dilandau more or less having to be male, but I won't bring them into the discussion unless people really want to hear them.

Heh Sorry read that several times and Missed where you said IN the Movie..

So anyway I went blah blah blah for nothing..

But does not matter if hulk does not Change gender.. Its just a Comparison. If you want a Gender transformation look at Ranma 1/2 but without the personality change! Same person just altered.

I remember when the series first came out in fansubbed form. One of the girls at my school was also into it, and she would always tell me "that guy Dilandau, is sooooo hot!" I'm guessing she never watched the entire series, otherwise she wouldn't dare allow herself to be attracted to a character who isn't really a "hot guy." (When I finally saw the episode where he gets all nuts and transforms into Celena, I thought that was pretty sick!)

I remember when I first saw the series and heard about Alllen's sister Celena I knew she was probably some other important character in the series (don't ask why but at first I thought Hitomi but then the series went on and I realized no way in hell that would've worked. :p)
Never guess she was Dilandou tho.

In the movie tho, there is defiantly no way he's Celena, no way. Though I missed that greatly (it was an interesting thing in Esca I loved) I suppose they didn't put it in because it was too difficult to explain and since the movie is like a condensed version of the series (like the Utena movie. Alternate, but condensed), yeah there'd be no time to properly expalin it all.

Actually... when i saw the cover of the special features disc in the Ultamite edition, I thought Sora was Celena at first :p Then I saw the movie and realized, 'oh wait that's Sora not Celena, whoops.' :p

That's exactly the take I had on it as well. Perhaps it was meant to have that effect...?

And to aid in the discussion of Dilandau in the movie: I've not seen it, so I don't know what they explain, but I noticed mention by Shadowbard above that he/she/whatever was made to look as though coming from the Dragon clan, and that there was a question as to how this could be explained within the series' plot. My take on it, from what I know, is that perhaps Dilandau's altered fate placed "him" within this group. Just a quess.

In fact, movie-Folken also makes a remark to the effect that he'd rescued Dilandau from a life with wild dogs (beastmen, perhaps, like Jajuka?). In the movie, Celena does not exist - or at least is never involved in the plot in any way. Dilandau is indeed part Draconian, as only members of the Dragon Clan have telekinetic powers and can pilot a Dragon Armor (movie-version guymelef). There is no question of Dilandau's gender in the movie; he is quite male.

Agreed. There's more to the effect of the Fate Alterations than superficial changes, as well - it's not as if Celena had a sex change operation in the conventional sense. She can revert to Dilandau's form spontaneously, and vice versa, and the implications of that in terms of the nature of their Fate Alteration convince me that there's plenty of justification for the belief that they are seperate people manifesting in one body. They're probably different all the way down to the genetic level. Certainly it's not like Dilandau is just a male Celena - look at him. Unless those red eyes are contacts, there are some changes going on at levels far beyond just altering one person's personality.

And you're absolutely correct that Dilandau is male, regardless of who he was prior to the Fate Alteration. He certainly seems comfortable in his sexual identity as a male - there's no evidence that Dilandau believes himself to be other than his appearance tells us.

That's a bad comparison. Ranma, in both forms, has no personality change and no difference in memory. It's a physical change, but not an emotional or mental one. The fact is that most Jekyl/Hyde-style changes, or superficial ones like Ranma's where the basic character is not changed even though his/her body is, don't compare to the Dilandau/Celena issue. Those are spontaneous changes. Both Dilandau and Celena, however, lived as individuals. They have distinct experiences, views, and personalities AND different forms.

Identical twins, though they come from the same source (one fertilized egg), are not the same person. Just because Dilandau was created from Celena does not mean he IS Celena. Just because they don't have seperate bodies does not mean they are one person. And Dilandau is male, regardless.

I'll shut up now, because this is just getting way too long. XD

Look dear, no was hurt, just don't do it again. You'll only get in trouble. -FR

Okay then...my answer to THIS thread's question is that i think dilandau should be considered male and celena female. i see Dilandau as a different person from Celena...and being male at that...it's hard to express my thoughts on this...blah

    Right, and everything you read on a random website is the absolute truth... e_e;

At no point in the series does Dilandau become female. His reversions to Celena do not count - because Celena is no longer Dilandau. She doesn't look like him, act like him, or think like him. At EVERY point where we see Dilandau, he is male. Simply because he happens to have been created from Celena does not make him female. His mentality, behaviors, and even physical traits (like eye color, body mass and muscle definition, his scar, etc) are different.

If he'd simply had a sex change, what you'd get is Dilandau with breasts and estrogen, but with his personality intact - NOT Celena.
