Saber Marionette The J to X DVD Dub

The dub for J to X was also done by Ocean Group (they did the J dub, too). However, while I found the J dub watchable the dub for this series really bugs me for many of the following reasons.

@ Lime is the same English VA, but she seems to have gotten more genki. The result sounds a bit like a chirppy 20 year old. Not good...

@ What have they done to my darling?!? Hanagata's English voice is way more annoying this time. In J he didn't sound like a gay stereotype. This time his voice had everything but the lisp! Spiff-Cam is loding a formal complaint ><

@ Yang Ming (translated as Yon Mei for some reason has an okay voice so far... even if he does sound a bit like Hess.

@ Fan Fan's voice is way too sexy.

@ I checked the credits. Jonathan Taylor DID do Otaru's English voice. (For those who have seen the Trigun dub, Mr. Taylor was Vash's English voice)

@ Kamatarou's voice will make me feel ill well into the next decade. As will Yumeji's (takes revenge for the Hanagata clan)

What did you guys and gals think of the dub?

Saa... I could be wrong on that. I just know that Mr. Taylor did one of the voices in the dub... and Otaru's English dub sounds a lot like Vash's.

The J dub is pretty bad. Lime does sound awful.

Darn! The J to X DVDs are gone from ebay!! WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But really, if I do get it, I'm gonna have to beg reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaallllllllllllly hard. I mean, Echiko and I spent around $60 on the J to X Chinese VCDs already, swapped away our dad bucks to buy the whole collection of J, and 21 bucks (that is, plus shipping and handling fee included) for J Again Chinese VCDs.

But truthfully, being a major SMJ fan, I wanna collect also the J Again AND J to X DVDs since they have accurate translation and much better picture quality! >_< My wallet or piggy banks gonna go bye bye soon... Or otherwise I get yelled in the face for doing so..

Well,I thought I'd regale you with my opinion on the dubs so far.

SMJ: Pretty bad. The VAs tend to over-act,and often deliver lines totally OOC or inappropriate to the situation (Lime's VA,in particular,had this awful habit of making Lime cheerful in even the direst of situations).

J Again: Better,but still not quite up to the standards set by the original Japanese.

J to X: Oh my god. Avoid this one if at all possible. They took the worst features of the SMJ dub and made them 6.02 * 10^23 times worse!

InuYasha - just stick to Japanese audio. You'll thank me for it!

 

Permission to strangle Hana's J to X VA? Pretty pretty please, Inu. He gave my baby no dignity, and I have to defend my baby's honor!

Oh, please do! I need all the help I can get! Seriously, that stupid dub was so insulting to Hanagata that it literaly made me furious for an entire night. Honestly! He sounded like a snivveling little looser, and NO, Koyasu doesn't make him sound like that at all in Ep. 3!

SMJ to X Dubs suck, they're beyond horrendous, They're the worst dubs I heard in my life of being a anime fan. (Well Not Really)

 

There are so many bad dubs it isn't funny. But the worst offender would have to be the dub to "sins of the sisters" (don't bother looking it up, it's a terrible, terrible OVA). J to X had some passible moments. Bloodberry's English VA was pretty good, and the saberdolls sounded excellent (especially Tiger's voice). But... they really screwed up everyone else.

 

You know what I think? Ironically, for J to X dub, the guys are the ones that sound messed up! Now I'm not saying that the girls' VA are any better, but they're better than J's. Lime is genki-er than the J's, and I suppose she tried her best. Out of everyone, she may have sound the most natural. Cherry's is so-so. Like I said, I know she tried her hardest. She sounds like a teenage girl XD And Bloodberry's is ok. Not good but not too bad. What I'm complaining about are the guys' voices!!! Otaru sounds hecka deep (he also sounds like he has an accent) ; Hanagata sounds wrong; and Akashi's voice is TOO dull!!! Also, I don't think they worked hard enough. They sound as if they were reading out of scripts instead of talking as if they're the characters! It's a shame x_X
