Yup.I saw it at a store and said "Wow,36 episodes at $70....." and now Im thinking about getting it.The only experience I have with Robotech/Macross is the movie Macross 2,which I thought was pretty good.Im a fan of Gundam so I guess I will like this just as much.(I think I saw a bit of Macross Plus, too)Whats the series all about? How great is it?

Now, I'm also guessing you're looking at the Robotech: Macross Saga box set, and not the remastered box set (has that come out yet??? I lost track of it a while ago...)

So please keep in mind that Robotech should be considered a seperate story from Macross. However I can say that you'll enjoy Robotech as well, and, if you ignore a couple scenes, you can pretend... its pretty easy to see where the original was going while watching Robotech...

No the actual Macross Original Version..

Me and Baka were looking at a site the other day on the differences.. and I guess Robotech has a few other old mecha anime mixed into it changing the intire story completly almost..

Well either way go for it.

As for Robotech, what happened was the producer, Carl Macek, wanted to just bring over an unedited dub. Best way for him was via TV. But the networks said 'no, 36 eps is too short'.

So he took two other shows, Southern Cross and Mospeada...

Then he basically rewrote all of it so it would fit together, then made a new dub. The end result is a show that, while having some similarities to Macross early on, takes a quite different path...

    for example...

Macross: Mankind spreads out in peace amongst the stars.
Robotech: Earth gets its @$$ handed to it.

Either way, Robotech is still a lot of fun, as long as you aren't some fool elitist who can't enjoy a show because its related to your show distantly and is a tad kiddy.

But getting back to the point, I'd buy the Macross original version, especially since its been remastered and visually cleaned up. And if I didnt already have all of Robotech, I'd go for that Robotech: Macross Saga box set too.

Robotech.com has the info we all need concerning the DVD sets:

    http://www.robotech.com/store/

They sell all three chapters to the Robotech Saga. Prices aren't too bad either.

    Maybe this will help.

No, see, there are two seperate box sets.

One is the Macross portion of Robotech.

The other is the remastered original Macross.

"Recent release" made it sound like you either

    a) thought Robotech was a -new- show with Macross in it.
    b) thought that Robotech never involved Macross at all and this was a new edition altered to fit it.
