Here's another thing lost to me in translation... hopefully someone can give me a quick explanation...

Lime calls Tamasaburo Tama-Chan...and Baiko in a similar manner...although for her, it's "Ume-Chan"...

Just what's the connection between "Ume" and "Baiko"? Is it some kind of play on the meanings of the words, or what?

BakaMattSu, on a quest to learn every little thing he can (barring Hana, of course. Aoi's already doing too well, there...)

The only thing I can think of is that 'Umi' in Japanese means 'sea', right? Could it be because of Baiko's hair?

Nevermind! I went and figured it out...

It turned out that my inclination on the meanings was headed in the right direction. Another question I've posed and ultimately sought out and answered myself. :p

"Bai" is a Japanese Apricot (note that it is in close relation to plums...it's important in a little bit. :))

So, if Lime calls Tamasaburo "Tama-Chan"...why not call Baiko "Bai-Chan"?

Well, this is where she gets a little creative (or confused :p) and goes with "Ume-Chan".

"Ume" if you haven't guessed from my comment about, means "plum". Creative play on words, heh?

Ah well, another mystery solved. Thanks for all you guys in trying, even if you were as clueless before as I was :D...

KabuMattSu <-- now try and solve *this* name!

And now I can help wondering with such a name...
Shouldn't Baiko be one of the "fruit salad girls"?
Lime, Cherry, Bloodberry, Apple, and now...Apricot(Plum)!!

    BakaMattSu, master of disaster...:D

So technically, Matt, is Tamasaburo (Tama-chan) Egg-chan?

    *Gotta love those names*

Aoi: I'm really bad with Japanese, but wouldn't the case be "Tamago-Chan" for egg? "Tama" is more like a spiritual sphere, I think...

Lime: Ieyasu Tokugawa's named after the first Shogun of the Edo government... in other words, a big player in real Japanese history who founded the Tokugawa Dynasty...

    Have a quick bio: http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/people/A0824916.html

After you get past the more "fruity" names, a lot of the other ones were modeled after other famous players in history... which makes it all that more intriguing...:)

*reads Matt's last post about famous players and hmmms*

I wonder if Hanagata was some famous samurai or something.

*imagins Hanagata as a samurai kicking major *** and swoons*

While I did know that Tamago meant egg, I could have sworn I'd seen it abbreviated as "Tama" a few months ago at several sushi restaurants in NYC. Perhaps a quick dictionary peek is worth my time?

~ Lady Aoi: what's up with that last sentence?

    ?????????????

I don't know either, but Baiko and Tamasaburo are male names in japanese. SO I'm guessing the author wanted to use female names when Lime called them by their nick names Tama and Ume.

Which of course are Japanese female names.

    Ieyasu Tokugawa

Should have posted this on my recent one.

In japanese history, there was famous a man name Ieyasu Tokugawa, and yes HE IS REAL and if any of you know a guy by the name of razorclaw x, he used a doctor name Nobunaga Oda, he is also real, and has connection with Ieyasu Tokugawa. To find out more, Type Ieyasu Tokugawa on your local search engine.

    Baiko and Tamasaburo

I read somewhere (was it Hanami's SM world?) that Baiko and Tamasaburo were two famous Kabuki actors in japan. This is - male actors that played the role of women.

Kinda fits the imperial guards, don't you think? They look so tough.

And i think there was also a "Hanagata Mitsuru" in japan. Not sure.

From what I know of Hanagata, his name is a play on the name of a character from some Japanese film. Just keep doing a search for his name, luvweaver.
