Was just having a slightly late Xmas shop on Play.com when I spotted this little beauty - Patlabor 1 + 2 DVD's

I know it might of been a while coming, but getting Patlabor 1 and 2 on DVD for that price totally makes up for the delay.

Yeah, the movies are a bit to serious and don't compare at all to the TV series or the OAV series or the manga.
In fact the movies are the worst thing about Patlabor.
It's really bizzare the way they made them so serious. Considering it's mostly slapstick comedy.
It'd be like getting Tom Clancy to write a Bottom movie.

    Their good movies though.

Exactly the opposite of how I feel.
I saw the movies long before the OVA's or the TV show so I much prefer the serious style of them.
Comedy anime has never done anything for me, aside from Project Ako maybe.

I saw the movies before the any of the other too. But I enjoyed the series and the OAVs far more. Watching the movies now is kinda weird once I've seen the show.
Mamoru Oshii is a good directer and all but the man is totally devoid of any sense of humour. And he can kinda ruin comic book adaptions because of that. I mean what the hell happened to the Ghost in the Shell movie!
Mind you an hour and a half long episode of the TV show wouldn'd have been very inspiring but it needed some of the humour that was in it originally. A bit of both would have been perfect. It works in City Hunter.

Are you saying you never found any anime funny besides A ko?

Most anime that trys to be funny just suks for me.
Ako wasn't even that damn funny when i think about it.
Animated **** just doesnt work with humour, for me anyway.

You talking about all animated comedy or just anime?
Cos if you don't find Warner Brothers stuff funny...well I'm sorry but you just have no soul.

But I can see how the Japanese sense of humour can just pass some people by.

I've seen people laugh at anime just for the sake of it being anime though. Like they have some kind of duty to laugh at it just cos it's anime.
Or they have some kind of advanced sense of humour because they laugh at Japanese subtitles.
