My vote is, naturally, J to X, the best anime series since Utena ^_^! I love how emotionally and intellectually deep this show was.

    Same here, Aoi-chan!

What I really like about SMJtoX is that there are actually episodes based on certain characters. In J, to me at least, I think they focused too much on Lime. I mean, almost everything happens to her first! The episodes in SMJtoX proof all of aspects of the marionettes ~ Lime-innocence/Cherry-maternal/Bloodberry-passionate. And there's even that Hanagata episode too!

I would vote for JtoX cuz they show episodes for one person! Like the Hana-chan one wit his daddy! ^_^

    Still...

...a lot of those early episodes in J to X do very little for the overall scene... while they do give that extra bit of character development, they're really nothing more than filler. Admittedly, after finally being able to see what I did of J to X, the first bit that I saw really didn't meet up to the impact of J. At least, until episode 10 hit... from there on, I've seen a heckuva lot of improvement... and I hope that trend continues in the year 3000 when Bandai releases 16+ so I can finally see 'em :D.

On the whole, while R is out of synch with the rest, I'll admit it actually had a pretty intriguing story in regards to face... what happens when to your clone when you have a natural descendant?

J Again was more of a transition from J to J to X (lol! try saying that phrase five times fast!)... It also had the workings of an interesting plot, but it still fell short (probably due to it's OVA limitation)

So by process of elimination, I go with the wonderful goodness of J! It had just the perfect mix of everything I looked for!

BakaMattSu, I guess it is really Lime-centred.... maybe that's why I'm a limer!

I'd have to say J to X for two reasons:

    1) The fruit salad girls grow more than they did in SMJ and J Again. They gain unique perspectives on life, and have to deal with a world that's no longer black and white. They also have to deal with the reaction to the impending "revival of the human female."

    2) Character development is spread out over the marionettes. Right before we get into the meat and potatoes of the plot in ep. 10,there are three episodes, each of which focuses on a specific marionette and develops her a bit more than what we've seen up to this point. In SMJ the focus was on Lime (perhaps because Megumi Hayashibara is a cash cow for animation studios?) and in J Again the focus was on Marine (who is arguably a Mary Sue). Even the Saber Dolls get in on character development (ep. 4 and eps. 10-13).

    Finally,some miscellaneous comments:

I think the point of J to X ep. 3 was to develop Hanagata's character.

BTW,I've dl'ed the first 15 eps of J to X on my computer, and what I've seen so far I really like. I can't wait to see the rest!

InuYasha - If I were a British Lime fan, would that make me a Limey twice over?

    warning: this post contains spoilers

    SPOILER FOR J TO X

You may not want to go further

If you do you better not flame me.....

    Still here?

    Last chaaaaance.....

    SPOILER!!!!

    Okay, enough already ^_^;.

I love J to X because Hanagata has a lot of screen time in this series... and quite a bit of it is nice, respectful, interesting character development... not just watching footage of him flying through windows and into the sky time and time again. While I agree that can be amusing, you can only watch so much of it before you begin to say... "I want to see him grow and change like everyone else does."

I was already a Hanagata fan before J to X (I think I fell in love with Hana sometime very early in J), but after watching the final series, I loved him even more. The courage, dedication, fierce loyalty and tenderness I saw him display in the second half of this series just blew me away. The things that happen to Otaru and Hanagata in Xi'an (which I won't mention a lot of so this won't be a huge spoiler ^_~) really, for me, served as a crucible for Hanagata. He could have easily left Otaru and gone home... after all, he was not implicated in Otaru's "crimes" or personally effected by the marionettes' disappearance. And yet, the fact that he remained by Otaru's side, risking what could have very well been his life, proved to me the depth of his character and the depth of his love. By the end of the series, he seems to have grown up a great deal, inside and out. (and gotten cooler clothes to ^_^).

J to X is the best series fav episode is 8, I also like it how it shows the otherly side of Cherry more in J2X then J.

Though JA is prolly the most amusing series.

Surprised to hear people vote for J to X here. I always assumed it wasn't as good because: No one fansubbed all of it :( People did J and J Again, but then stopped in the middle of J to X, and I thought I heard it was because J to X wasn't as good.

Looks like I was wrong, and those pesky fansubbers quit before they got far enough in. The bakas! Had they already forgotten hor SMJ got so much better the farther in you got? Why would they possibly think J to X could be the same? Oh well, I'll just have to wait a while to see J to X finally.. but now I look forward to it even more!

Not what I heard. The subbers pulled the plug because of Bandai-Entertainment America's licensing of it...

If you want to point out the real Bakas, it's those guys - who waited so long to actually use that license!

And Lime...you almost move me to desperate aggravation...

*picks up Connecticut again and starts shaking it violently, causing buildings, cars and people to plummet off it, whilst screaming "Give Me My Subs! Give Me My Subs!"*

BakaMattSu, every day is a struggle to resist the urge to "Road Trip" to find this magicial store...

    J to X rocks!

    Yes, i love JtoX!

I'm not saying i didn't like the plot of J (i did, and a lot! Specially the squirrely episode! AAaaawww!!!) but JtoX is much MUCH deeper.

I would have liked the series to be longer and involve more about the characters of the original novels.

Yes, what I liked was the insight of the characters. VERY SAD EPISODES! (sniff). But it was SO cute! I specially liked the ending, it made me cry!

Well, one thing I didn't like was that Lorelei should have been more involved. Sure, she was the center of the plot - again - but she is still portrayed as somewhat a "side character" (i liked her so much that made 3 fics where she plays important role! Right sachiko? ^_^ ).

    Still, J to X ROCKS!

Right! Your fics are GREAT, luvweaver! They're very emotional ^.~ It's great how you look so deep into every one of the characters!

SMJ to X all the way.
I found that some episodes on SMJ kind of got weak, and don't SMJ again, phaa! my god.

Question though who are the fruit salad girls?
