Actually I don't recall it ever hurting anybody, but I could be wrong. If you remember, Sesshomaru once tested it on Jaken, and he was fine.

Obviously, Tetsusaiga is more powerful because of its attack capabilities, but Tenseiga is more useful because it can be used to revive everything that Tetsuasaiga has destroyed\killed...

well, i think that was the point...because of his hatred for humans and basicly his disregard of life, Sesshoumaru ended up with a sword that would do nothing but bring it back. but in a way i think his father had inteded him to somehow gain respect for life and for humans, but also see that he could correct the life taking capabilities of the Tetsusaiga.

if i remember correctly you cant get guns at all in Japan, except for the military. swords on the other hand, while available, have to have a permit attached to the scabbard at all times.

oh and as someone already asked the Kanji for Inu Yasha means literally Dog Femal Witch...dont ask...i couldnt figure it out either...

I was once told that "Yasha" means "female demon". which goes along with the whole female demon witch thing.....I doubt it but you have to admit that's hillarious.....

Kagome:Inuyasha are you hiding something? -points to a book called "name meanings"-
    Inuyasha:O.O WHAT THE-!?

well, thats exactly what "inu yasha" means literally dog female witch...why? i havent the slightest clue whatsoever.

back to the question at hand, either one wickedly powerful. and it depends on what your dfinition of power is. both blades are incredibly strong. since both were forged of Inu Yasha and Sesshoumaru's fathers fang both are infinitly stronger than a normal katana. in terms of mystical power, again both are most powerful, while both blades have mystic power, one is a Satsujinken* while the other is a Katsujinken**. which brings me to my final point, while both are powerful in their own rights, only the Satsujinken, Tetsusaiga, can kill. which leads me to believe that, while the tensaiga is powerful because of its katsujinken power, that its a sword that is useles in a battle therefore being on no use to its master in such a situation, and for Sesshoumaru, who seems to live to fight, its a completely useless sword. however as we see later
he later uses the tensaiga to resurrect Jaken twice *why bother?*, ressurect Rin, and later use it to being back the head of the demon who broke the Tetsusaiga to forge the Satsujinken, Tokijin.

*Satsujinken means a killing sword literally meaning kill person sword
** Katsujinken means a life giving sword, quite the opposite of the Satsujinken. literally meaning life person sword.

theres a saying which read "Satsujinken Katsujinken" which roughly translates out to "the sword that takes life is the sword that gives life" which means, that sometimes we have to kill to preserve life.

If this is a question of power then I think we've already established that the two swords are evenly matched. However, if this is a question of usefulness, I'd have to go with Tensaiga. As earlier shown on Inuyasha, not only can Tensaiga revive the dead (which could bring back fallen comrades to help you fight, not to mention powerful strangers who may fight in debt to you), but if you have the Tensaiga on you then you cannot be killed, as shown in an earlier Inuyasha episode.

When Sesshomaru was fighting against Inuyasha (this is the first time we hear of the Tensaiga), he was about to be killed by Inuyasha's Wind Scar attack. Just before his inevitable death, Tensaiga pulsed and whisked him away before he was killed, therefore saving his life.

Finding a sword like that would be extremely difficult to do, whereas finding a sword used for fighting, like the Tetsusaiga, shouldn't be that hard seeing as most swords are used for fighting. While it would probably be near impossible to finding a sword as POWERFUL as Tetsusaiga, it would certainly be easier then finding a magical sword that can revive others and save you from death.
